ICT in the ACT, newly expanded Canberra ICT Awards launches
The Canberra ICT Awards has been highlighting the outstanding achievements of individuals and organisations in the ACT since 2008. Entering the awards provides participants an opportunity to promote their success and to demonstrate leadership in the ICT industry. This year the awards will be accepting nominations across 13 diverse categories.
Jeffory Mitchell, ACS Canberra branch vice-chair and chair of the Canberra ICT Awards comments: “We are delighted to recognise and celebrate the success of the region’s ICT professionals and organisations. Last year we rewarded outstanding achievements from winners in five areas and given the increasingly important role the ICT sector is playing across the region we have added new categories this year.”
As well as recognising success in Online, Education and Community, there will be new awards categories such as Telecommunications, Cyber Security, and Green ICT. Individual nominations will be also accepted for new awards CIO of the Year and ICT Professional of the Year, alongside existing categories such as the ICT High Achiever award and the Leoni Warne promotion of Women in ICT Award. Nominations will be accepted for projects delivered locally, nationally or internationally as long as the individual or organisation responsible is based in the ACT.
The Canberra ICT Awards will be judged by a panel of ICT experts, and the winners will be announced in November 2012 at the official awards dinner at The Boat House By The Lake. Winners will also have the benefit of being automatically included as nominees in the 2013 National iAwards. The iAwards program is a joint initiative by ACS Canberra, the AIIA and the Pearcey Foundation.
Mitchell comments: “Despite the important role ICT plays in all aspects of our lives, the professionals and organisations who contribute to the industry are often overlooked. Canberra and the ACT are active in leading ICT research and delivery, and as a community it is important we recognise the achievements of the ICT professionals who perform to exceptional levels. Having built upon the success of the Canberra ICT Awards over the past three years we look forward to the biggest and best Awards yet in 2012.”
