ACS Canberra ICT Awards winners announced

November 16, 2012: This year’s ACS Canberra ICT Awards dinner shows there is a flood of talent in the Canberra ICT community.

The Canberra Branch of the Australian Computer Society (ACS) is pleased to host the fourth annual ICT Awards recognising the outstanding performance and contributions made by members of the Canberra ICT community.

This year’s Awards show that amidst continuing economic uncertainty, there is good news to be found in local projects showcasing world class ICT talent and demonstrating the innovation and professionalism of ICT practitioners in the ACT.

Awards Chair Jeff Mitchell said, “We are very impressed at the quality and fierce competition in this year’s Awards with international ICT companies and projects standing out as winners in a tough field.”

Despite a tough economic year, the 2012 ACS Canberra ICT Awards saw a record number of entries across a diverse range of categories including Education, Innovation, Student Projects, Telecommunications and Green ICT.

The Awards receive the support of the ACT Government through the Patron of ACS Canberra, Minister Andrew Barr, and are run in conjunction with national iAwards partners, The Pearcey Foundation and AIIA. Winners from the Canberra ICT Awards automatically enter the national iAwards conducted in Melbourne each year.

The ACS’ 2012 ICT Statistical Compendium released this week showed Australian ICT industry revenue growth of 11 per cent in the 12 months since 2011 to $91 billion.

ACS CEO Alan Patterson said “Awards such as these which honour exceptional local talent work to draw attention to the important work performed by ICT practitioners who are driving the nation’s $100 billion digital economy.”

Winners at the Awards will gain recognition, support and exposure within the local community, opening doors to further opportunity and reward.

“Big chances this year for Canberra include the excellent work in the field of Green ICT by Canberra headquartered company WindLab and tremendous work being carried out in the Federal Government sphere by NICTA through their e-PASA product which looks promising to go commercial in the future,” said Jeff Mitchell.

The 2012 ACS Canberra ICT Awards dinner was held last night at The Boat House by the Lake in Grevillea Park, Canberra.
