iAwards platforms prominent Australian technology innovators
Monday 11 July, 2011: The iAwards announced today their 2011 State and Territory winners and merit recipients in their company categories, at a series of events held across the nation last week.
“The 2011 iAwards field has been very strong across all states and territories,” said AIIA CEO Ian Birks. “There has been a trend of continual improvement in the field of iAwards contenders over the past few years, and we are now seeing world class technology innovators consistently emerging at the local level.”
Now in its 17th year, the iAwards have continued to develop. 2011 sees the awards program expanding to not only recognise awards for companies but also for individuals. This development has emerged through the Australian Computer Society, Australian Information Industry Association and the Pearcey Foundation joining forces to deliver one prestigious Annual Awards program recognizing both outstanding achievement and innovation in ICT industry.
“Identifying and recognising the outstanding talent within the ICT community is a common goal of all three organisations – AIIA, ACS and the Pearcey Foundation. The rationale for us to collaborate in such an endeavour is self-evident, highly desirable, and a practical demonstration of the ICT sector recognising its role in the Australian economy” said Pearcey Foundation Chairman, Wayne Fitzsimmons.
“Anything which nurtures and promotes local ICT talent, like the iAwards can only be a positive thing. We believe that avenues such as Industry Awards programs will encourage more people to the ICT industry and drive further innovation and demand in our people both locally and internationally” commented Anthony Wong, President of the Australian Computer Society,
State and territory winners and merit recipients will go on to compete for national honours against leading companies from other states and territories at the 2011 iAwards Gala Dinner in Melbourne on 4 August. Winners of the national iAwards then have the opportunity to compete internationally at the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance Awards later this year.
