ACS welcomes NSW ICT Governance Framework
12 July, 2011: The Australian Computer Society (ACS) today
welcomed the NSW Government’s announcement of a new ICT Governance
Framework and the establishment of a new ICT Board.
ACS
President Anthony Wong discussed the importance of ICT governance in
driving productivity enhancement in the delivery of Government services
as well as economic growth.
“Given the essential nature of ICT
in supporting the operations of government and as ICT underpins
productivity, innovation and development across all government and
industry sectors, we are pleased to see the NSW Government prioritise
ICT as an enabler for the delivery of products and services. ICT is
effective in increasing efficiency whilst providing access to essential
services especially in regional areas. We welcome the establishment of
the new ICT Board being supported by the ICT Advisory Panel and the ICT
(Government) Leadership Group.
Patrick Wilson, ACS NSW Branch
Chair said, “With an estimate Government ICT spend of $2 billion per
annum in NSW, we are pleased to see the Government seeking input from
the industry and we look forward to providing the Government with
insights about innovative solutions and emerging technologies. We would
like to see the priorities focused on service delivery, improved
targeting of ICT investment and improved engagement with the industry”.
“We
would like to thank the Hon. Greg Pearce, Minister for Finance and
Services and Minister for the Ilawarra, for representing the NSW
government in officiating the opening of the ACS national office in
Sydney last week. At the opening the Minister spoke of his support for
the Society and the leadership role the ACS has in ICT policy matters
on behalf of our members and the broader industry. A whole of
government approach is required to improve our ICT service capabilities
to better NSW’s position on the global stage”, said Mr Wong.
