ACS Mourns the Passing of Su Spencer, former Director of the ACS Women Board
August, 2011: The Australian Computer Society (ACS) today paid tribute to one of its distinguished members, ACS
Fellow Ms Su Spencer, who passed away on Friday 5 August 2011.
A member of the ACS since late 1993, Su held numerous key roles within
the ACS including ACS Disciplinary Committee Member (2006 -2007), ACS
Women Board Director (2005 – 2006), Branch Chair of ACS Tasmania (2000
– 2001), SA Branch Vice Chair (2004 – 2005) and SA Branch Executive
Committee Member (2003/04 and 2006/07). Su was the principle designer
and developer of a software package that won the first Australian
Design Award for Software.
She strongly influenced government
policy in South Australia and Tasmania, especially in the introduction
of portals, e-Commerce and e-Services and the continuing development of
ICT infrastructure for societal change and access. “We are deeply
saddened to have lost an ICT professional and a committed member who
contributed so much of her time to the ACS and the ICT industry. Su
will be greatly missed,” said Anthony Wong, ACS President, today.
The relatives and friends of the late Ms. Su Spencer are invited to attend her funeral service
to be held in the Florey Chapel, Centennial Park Cemetery, Goodwood
Road, Pasadena SA on Friday August 12, 2011 at 10.15 a.m. In lieu of
flowers, a donation in memory of Su to the Cancer Council would be
