Professions Australia Ethics Forum 2013

The Professions Australia Ethics Forum to be held in Sydney on 13 March 2013 will be a great day for those involved with and interested in professional ethics. We will be discussing case studies of ethics issues which have arisen and been dealt with in various professions – how those professions dealt with them and how you or your organisation may have dealt with the same or similar issue. They may be hypothetical or real but all will be realistic.

We have a fantastic line up of people passionate about professional ethics to lead the discussions, including

  • Philip Argy will chair the day. Philip is a past President of the Australian Computer Society and is Principal of Argy Star.Com and is an experienced commercial mediator and arbitrator. He is a barrister and solicitor of the supreme courts of NSW and the ACT and passionate about the business case for ethics and ethical behaviour.
  • Dr Betty Chaar, Faculty of Pharmacy at The University of Sydney. Dr Chaar’s work centres on promoting moral reasoning in delivering healthcare services by pharmacists. She has recently written a series of articles in the magazine “Australian Pharmacist” in which she outlined case studies of ethical dilemmas which could face practicing pharmacists.
  • Dr Richard Lucas who is Head of Discipline, Information Systems, Faculty of Information, Sciences and Engineering, Canberra University. His research areas cover: Information Ethics; Information Technology Ethics; and Professional Ethics.
  • Dr Belinda Kenny, elected member of the Board of Ethics of Speech Pathology Australia. She is an experienced speech pathologist and clinical educator with research interests in professional ethics. Her post-doctoral studies investigated ethical dilemmas and ethical reasoning in the profession of speech pathology.
  • John Purcell, Policy Adviser, Corporate Regulations, CPA Australia
  • Rupert Grayston, Deputy Chief Executive, Engineers Australia a member association of over 90,000 engineering professionals. Rupert recently led the rewrite of the Engineers Australia Code of Ethics.
An outstanding panel. However, the day is not just about listening. It is about discussing how you or your organisation handles ethical issues. A great opportunity to share ideas and experiences and to interact with your colleagues in other associations dealing with similar issues. If you are involved in ethics this will be a day you can’t afford to miss.

Register now. Numbers will be limited.
