APPLICATION FOR SKILLS ASSESSMENT

(Migration Purposes Only)

 

Requirements for Assessment  

It is in the applicant’s best interest to be meticulous about the documents they send because it will enable us to make an accurate assessment within the six-week time frame.

If any documents submitted to the society are found to have been falsified or forged the applicant’s case will be closed without the issue of result. The fee will not be refunded.

 DOCUMENTS YOU MUST PROVIDE

Application form   This must be completed in English.

Birth certificate or passport  You must provide evidence of change of name (if applicable).

Details of relevant tertiary qualifications  Documentary evidence issued by the appropriate university should accompany the application.

- The academic testamur (certificate) of degree/diploma/award etc.

- The detailed official academic transcript/mark sheets, showing all the subjects/units studied for the qualification/awards obtained. If possible, please obtain details of the percentage of relevant computer content in the course from the appropriate tertiary institution.

Letter of completion  In the absence of the testamur applicants that have completed their qualification must submit a letter from the institution stating the date of completion and the duration of the course in academic years. This statement should also specify whether the study was full or part-time.

Applicants that have recently (within 6 months) completed their Australian IT degree, graduate-diploma or masters are not required to provide evidence of experience unless they wish to be considered for the MODL.

This enables the Society to correctly assess the level of the course, whilst confirming its completion.

Employer references  Applicants should attach employer references to their application. These should be on company letterhead and include the job title, a brief job description and precise dates of employment. They should also clearly state whether employment was full or part-time along with demonstrated levels of competence with any computer languages, the various types of hardware and software used and the extent of involvement with any major projects. Letters of appointment or contracts are not accepted.

References covering a minimum of four (4) years are recommended.

Migration Occupation in Demand List (MODL) Applicants that wish to be assessed against the MODL (see General Skilled Migration booklet, DIMA) must provide employer references covering a minimum of 12 months as supporting documentation, hi-lighting the experience they wish to be considered. The MODL nomination section of the application form should also be completed.

The following statement will be included on the letter of advice if the applicant is elected for MODL:

"Based on the provided certified documentation it is my opinion that the applicant has 12 months experience in_______."

Resume  Details of qualifications held, brief details of relevant experience, and the periods of these positions. Attach a detailed written explanation of your professional information technology experience including positions held, projects undertaken and your contributions to them.

Payment The fee is non-refundable and subject to change without notification. Please attach payment to the application.

If paying by transfer, please be sure to include the applicant’s surname in the Remitter Details of your payment advice so that it can be easily traced in our records.

* Re-assessment If you have been assessed under the PAM 3 (March 1999) Guidelines and have been requested by your DIMA case officer to obtain an assessment under the current guidelines the fee is AUD $100

* Membership If you have taken advantage of the ACS ‘Special Graduate Offer’ you will be required to pay the full fee of AUD $350

Certified Documents

Please do not send originals as liability cannot be accepted for original documents.

All original documents (and the translation into English where required) are to be photo-copied and certified by an official of the appropriate immigration office, a Justice of the Peace or a notary public official. Photocopies or faxed copies of certified documents are not acceptable.

Documents submitted for assessment will not be returned to the applicant, therefore it is in the applicant’s own interest to have multiple copies certified.

Translation

All documents not in English must be accompanied by an English translation; this should be administered by a registered translation service.

Membership

Membership (Professional or Associate) of the Australian Computer Society, the British Computer Society, Hong Kong Computer Society, New Zealand Computer Society or Singapore Computer Society must still submit an application for assessment. Applicants must be current financial members and provide documentation to prove their claim.

ASCO Codes

Applicants must nominate their own ASCO code, for further information, relating to this issue please refer to the General Skilled Migration booklet (DIMA). The Society will nominate a code for those who have not yet commenced work i.e. recent graduates. If the Assessor disagrees with the applicant’s nomination they will elect a more appropriate code; this will not affect a persons application to DIMA.
