FUTURE TRENDS IN SOFTWARE ENGINEERING
The world is changing and so are the demands on our discipline. In this talk we will highlight some of the recent trends, namely the rise of empirical software engineering, of multi-core software engineering, of web service engineering, of secure, dependable and energy conscientious engineering. We will also give examples of what the RiSE (Research in Software Engineering) group at Microsoft Research is doing to address these challenges ranging from work in software analytics (CRANE for risk assessment and effort estimation), to program analysis (Pex and SAGE for security testing, VCC for verifying concurrent C), to new runtimes (TPL for exploiting task parallelism, or Green for approximate computations), to novel operating system designs for the future (ServiceOS for software plus services). Our Presenter - Jonathan "Peli" de Halleux Our presenter joins us from Microsoft Research in the US and is the Keynote Speaker at the Test Automation Workshop held annually at Bond University. Jonathan “Peli” de Halleux is actively working on Pex, an automation Whitebox Testing tool for .NET. Peli joined the Foundations for Software Engineering group at Microsoft in October 2006. Peli has extensive experience in regourous software testing, compliers and alogorithms, Before joing Microsoft, Peli earned a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the Catholic University of Louvain (2002 – 2004)
