ACS Chairman, Kumar Parakala, today announced the appointment of Bruce Lakin as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Society.
Mr Lakin has had an extensive involvement with the ICT sector over a long period, including recent roles as Senior Director for Symantec Asia Pacific & Japan, Managing Director of VERITAS Software and General Manager of Toshiba.
Mr Parakala said Mr Lakin’s ICT industry experience, combined with a strong community service ethic, will be of great benefit to the Society and its members. "Bruce is a leading ICT professional whose substantial industry experience and knowledge will make him an outstanding ambassador for the Society and the profession. He has a strong background at a senior management level in running large IT organisations and possesses an excellent understanding of the challenges and opportunities that impact its Australian ICT professionals. Bruce's leadership will help drive key initiatives that benefit our members and assist the ACS in advancing ICT professionalism in Australia," said Mr Parakala.
Mr Lakin said he is honoured and delighted to take up the position and challenges as CEO of the ACS. "The ACS is a strong public voice for the ICT profession and a guardian of professional standards and ethics in the industry. This is an organisation of which I am proud to be a part. I look forward to helping progress the Society’s role as an advocate for the profession, in advancing the careers of ICT professionals and its hosting of World Computer Congress in 2010. My initial areas of focus will include public issues such as the National Broadband Network, Australia’s Digital Economy, ICT skills development and careers, Green ICT and e-Security."
AIIA Chairman, John Grant, welcomed the appointment. "The AIIA welcomes Bruce Lakin into the CEO role at the ACS. Bruce is well known to many of our members and, given his long and successful career in our industry, is well positioned to support the strong leadership of ACS Chairman, Kumar Parakala. As you are all aware the ACS is on Twitter, our handle: @ACSnewsfeed. Twitter has introduced a new feature- Twitter Lists which allow users to organize who they follow. We have complied one list- ACS people, ideally we would like all ACS members who are on twitter to be part of this group so we can better communicate with you, the members. All you need to do is send a message to @ACSnewsfeed or email Gemma Hogan with your Twitter handle so we can add you to the list.
At the ACS, we are looking to develop a database of members who are interested in responding to questions or comments made by third parties on websites such as the Australian, Computerworld, Whirlpool, ARN etc. The ACS features in these online publications frequently and have noted a general rise in activity in the forum or comments section.
From time to time we want to be able to call on members to respond to these comments to provide a balanced perspective for all readers. If this is something you are interested in or would like further information on, please contact Gemma Hogan
