What if I don’t live in a country that provides tuition, how do I sit the examinations?

You can self study by looking through the subject syllabus on our website www.acs.org.au/dit and also make sure you are familiar with the requirements of the competencies for each subject. You would need to purchase the text book listed on the website for each subject to ensure you are fully informed and ready to sit the examinations. (Suggest you check your local academic book shop or online at www.amazon.com)  You will also need to review past exam papers, examiner reports and case studies which are also available on our website.

You will also need to pay for your exam invigilation and source your own invigilator either through your local computer society or by a recognised University or college.  All exam invigilators have to be approved by the ACS.

What are “competency based” examinations?

To deliver the DIT examinations we must ask questions which seek to test your detailed knowledge and skills in a specific competency. Competencies for each examination are listed on the front of the examination paper and if you do not pass all the competency requirements for each paper, you will fail the whole exam. Competencies for the subjects are listed in the syllabus for each subject on the website.

What is a workplace scenario which is required to be studied prior to the examination?

All examinations are based upon a case study, or workplace scenario reflecting a real work environment. The same case study is used for every examination in a particular offering. Students need to study this and the exam questions will relate to this scenario. The case study is always available on our website at least 2 months prior to the examinations.

Do you have past examination papers to use as a guide?

Yes - we have past examination papers for all examinations since June 2006 on our website as well as the associated case studies. Visit the Examinations section of the website under Results.

How do I enroll in the DIT examinations?

To sit an examination a candidate must first complete an Examinations Application Form on the website and pay a fee specified by the ACS covering the cost of processing the application and the subsequent examination. You can also contact the training provider in your country who will provide this service and send a list of their students directly to the ACS. This is the case for CSSL, IBS and Austech. Applications to sit the examinations must be received as early as possible prior to the exam. Our regulations state 2 months prior to the exam date, although late applications may be accepted.
