**IMPORTANT NOTIFICATION TO ALL DIPLOMA STUDENTS AND COLLEGES**

The Diploma of Information Technology will be revised to be delivered online and renamed in the near future.  It will be a new award encompassing tuition and assessment.

  • Continuing students, who have enrolled in the current DIT syllabus (as shown on this website) will need to complete the DIT exams in the same format as they have previously - 3 hour exams, hand written in their home country and assessed in Australia.
  • Continuing Students can complete the current exams up to and including, the October 2014 examination period.
  • Our next exam period will be February 2012 which is for continuing students only.
  • The new Diploma (Computer Technologist Education Program) will be offered early 2012 and details will be on a different website.  We will add a link from this website to the new award in the near future.

..........................................................................................................................

As part of our commitment to the ICT industry and professional development of the ICT community the Australian Computer Society offers the ICA50105 Diploma of Information Technology.

The ICA50105 Diploma of Information Technology comprises eight compulsory subjects; systems analysis, programming, computer organisation, data management, OO systems development, computer communications, professional practice and systems principles.

Assessment is via external examinations offered three times per year on the last two weekends in February, June and October. Examinations may be sat anywhere in the World and candidates may prepare either by attending a college teaching an appropriate course or by using their own resources.

All examinations are based upon a case study, or workplace scenario. The case study for a future offering is published on this web site at least two months before examinations commence.

A candidate may sit a maximum of four examinations at any one offering. Most candidates take twelve to twenty four months to pass all eight examinations.

To pass an examination a candidate must demonstrate both practical skills AND underpinning knowledge (competencies). The programming examination, for example, requires a candidate both to program in an object oriented language and to understand the principles of software engineering.

When associated with relevant industry experience, an ICA50105 Diploma of Information Technology entitles a candidate to Associate Membership of the Australian Computer Society (see Guidelines for Membership). It also entitles a candidate to credit equivalent to one academic year of a Bachelor of Information Technology at universities such as Australian Catholic University, Charles Sturt University, Deakin University, RMIT, CQUniversity, the University of South Australia, University of Western Sydney and Victoria University .

The Australian Computer Society (ACS) is a registered training organisation authorised to issue the ICA50105 Diploma of Information Technology (General) qualification as defined within the ICA05 Training Package.
