Structure of the Program

The Computer Professional Education Program consists of four subjects, three core, compulsory subjects and one elective subject. Business, Legal and Ethical Issues is the first core subject which needs to be completed, but you can then enrol in either of the remaining core subjects,  Business, Strategy and IT as your second subject or New Technology Alighment. We recommend that you take BLE, followed by BSIT and then NTA. These subjects are to be completed prior to the elective subject, unless the elective subject is being taken as a single stand alone subject only.

The core subjects are:

  1. Business, Legal and Ethical Issues
  2. Business, Strategy and IT
  3. New Technology Alignment
The elective subjects are:
  1. Project Management; IT Service Management; Adaptive Business Intelligence; Enterprise Architecture;Green Technology Strategies; Organisational Change Management, Business Process Improvement  (You only need to choose one if completing the CPE Program)
The elective subjects can be taken as a single stand alone subject and may require an induction period prior to commencement of the study period for new CPEP students. A Certificate will be issued for single elective subject completion. Student still must satisfy the pre-requisites for entry which are an IT degree plus minimum 18 months relevant industry experience.

Students may apply for recognition of prior Learning (RPL) for any of the subjects within the ACS Computer Professional Education Program except the Professional Practice subject. See http://www.acs.org.au/cpeprogram/index.cfm?action=show&conID=rpl for further details on RPL.

Also, the Computer Professional Education Program includes a subject called  Professional Practice  which is a reflective diary providing students with an opportunity to record their experiences while enrolled in the program, and to reflect on how they acted and what they might have done to improve their performance. This subject commences when students enrol in their first subject, Business, Legal and Ethical Issues.

You can commence your studies in any given study period, you do not have to commence the Program in Study Period 1 of each year.  Therefore, you can start in Study Period 1, 2 or 3 in any year.  You can also have a break between study periods, for example, complete BLE in Study Period 1, have a break in Study Period 2 and recommence studies in your next subject in Study Period 3.  Note:  If less then 10 enrolments in a core subject and 7 in an elective subject, then this subject may not be offered in a specific study period.  Students will be given the option of transferring to another subject, deferring until the specific subject is offered again, or receiving a refund.

We recommend that only one subject be taken in any one study period.  In our experience, undertaking concurrent subjects in one study period is an extremely heavy study load combined with full time employment and family commitments.  If a student wishes to undertake more than one subject in a study period, they must get prior approval after discussions with the Principal and/or Registrar.

Delivery of the Program is by online learning, using our own learning website and techniques such as email, discussion forums, links to websites and online downloading of educational materials. Students will not attend a classroom or lecture theatre and as there are no face to face lectures.

Assessment is via assignments and discussion form participation.

Student discussion forums (cohorts) will be an essential learning tool.  Tutors, or learning facilitators will be moderators for the discussion forums to provide supportive dialog and assistance when required. Students will be required to be online to communicate with each other weekly.

Time commitment will be approximately 8-10 hours per week for 13 weeks and study period dates for 2009 are 18 January - 19 April, 10 May - 9 August and 30 August - 29 November 2009. Dates for 2010 are 24 January - 24 April, 16 May - 14 August and 12 September - 11 December 2010.

The educational content of the Program will be determined by an Academic Board comprising representatives of the ICT industry and profession. The educational methodology will be supported by collaborative research with one or more relevant university research centres. The effectiveness of its educational procedures will be supervised by an Faculty Board comprising educationalists from universities and colleges of tertiary and further education.
