FAQs

What is the purpose of this survey?

The ACS Women’s Board is committed to helping women shape Australia's ICT industry.

Many women have already shared their experiences through the ACSW's 2008 and 2010 surveys for women. We invite women working in ICT to contribute to the 2012 ACSW Women in ICT Survey.

Expanding on our first members-only survey in 2008, our 2010 survey sought to get more women’s voices heard, with all women involved in the ICT industry or working with ICT in Australia invited to participate. In helping us understanding women's perspectives, responses to the 2010 survey played a key part in communicating the unique values and benefits women bring to the Australian ICT industry.

Women traditionally shy away from male-dominated industries such as ICT, so recognition through projects like the European Union PRA.G.E.S. project ultimately encourage more women into these professions, creating a level playing field regardless of gender.

We will continue to keep you informed about the valuable use of women's feedback in many forums as possible in 2012 and in 2013.

Do I have to be an ACS member?

No, all women working in ICT in Australia are invited to participate in the 2012 survey.

Can I send this survey link onto others?

How long will it take me to do this survey?

This depends on two things:

  1. Your pathway through the survey – it could be as short as 5 minutes, or you might find that you are invited to give more feedback about your experiences
  2. How much qualitative feedback you choose to give us. Allocate between 10 and 15 minutes and you will be OK - get a coffee and relax!

How much can I write in the comments?

As much as you like – the space is virtually unlimited. Although a comments box may look small on the screen you can keep writing – it’s your comments that add most value to your feedback.

Is this survey confidential and secure?

Yes. All information is managed confidentially, in line with the ACS' privacy policy and with the requirements of the Privacy Act of the Commonwealth of Australia.

Can I save and come back later?

At the moment, because of the security in this survey, your are required to compelte the survey  in one session. Your answers are sent in a single tiny secure response file after you click submit at the end. After it is received by specialist collator software it is unencrypted and automatically collated for reporting.

How long can I leave the survey open on my screen?

You can leave a survey open for up to 4 hours on your screen in any one session. Note too that the speed of each survey page's refresh depends on the speed of your computer's access to the internet, and on the server load at the time you complete a survey.

Tell me about the prizes

You can opt in to go into the draw to receive a beautiful Majestic All Orchid Tropical bouquet. Three winners will be drawn at random upon the close of the survey.

If you choose to opt in for the orchids or to join our newsletter you will be asked to supply your name and your email address. Only this information will be supplied to the ACS.

Can I get a record of my responses?

Although this is readily done, this particular survey is not set up to generate you an automated report giving you a record of your replies. In this survey your response is anonymous, and completely confidential. Only aggregated reporting is given to the ACS at the end of the survey.
