Mr Steve Bittinger - Research Director Gartner, Canberra, Australia
Biography:
Steve Bittinger is a Research Director for Gartner Asia/Pacific, based in Canberra. Mr. Bittinger’s personal research focuses on Government, process improvement, large-scale infrastructure and operations, governance and management, business and technology strategy, Higher Education, and disruptive innovation.
Mr. Bittinger has more than 30 years of professional experience in the IT industry. Prior to joining Gartner at the beginning of 2001, Mr. Bittinger was the chief technology officer at inter-touch, providing broadband Internet access in five-star hotel worldwide. Previous to that, he was the global infrastructure manager at Reckitt & Coleman, responsible for strategy, standards and infrastructure, including a global network that linked 100 locations in 45 countries. Mr. Bittinger has also served as technical director of Pegasus Networks, an Internet service provider. His broad experience also includes management roles at the University of Tasmania and Shell Oil New Zealand, covering telecommunications, data centre operations, client services, software development, pre-sales support, public relations, marketing, retail sales, and publications. He has worked full time in the IT industry since 1974, with more than 20 years of experience in Australia, New Zealand and the U.K.
Mr. Bittinger earned a Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Texas at Austin in 1974.
Topic synopsis
The nature and extent of complexity in business and technology will increase dramatically over the next five years. The scope and pace of change will continue to accelerate. Effective fusion of business, technology and business relationships will be essential. Multi-sourcing is the new normal delivery model.
